Lessons

Due to extra commitments this year, I am unable to offer vouchers or take new enquiries at this time.

Make your own functional pottery at the wheel with professional potter Faye Christian. After firing and glazing you can enjoy the rewarding experience of eating and drinking from your own hand made pots.

No prior pottery experience required.

Lessons at the wheel are £30.00 per hour and this includes clay, firing and glazing. In an hour you will be able to make one of the two basic shapes on the potter's wheel of a cup or a bowl, although some speedy people will manage both.

You're welcome to book longer and relax knowing you can take your time.

You can share a lesson between two or more people. There is only one wheel so you will take turns, but it can be quite fun to have a giggle watching your friend or partner learning to make a pot.

For larger numbers I also offer hand building workshops. This allows up to 6 people to get their hands on the clay at the same. I offer introductory lessons making small square dishes using prints from natural found material like flowers, leaves and ferns. Theses skills can be built upon in further workshops to make larger more technical pieces including fruit bowl, serving platter and jug.

After drying out very slowly (one to two weeks), your pots will be fired in the kiln to 1000c the glaze is then applied and it will be re-fired to 1260c. Your pots will then be safe to eat and drink from and enjoy. This process will take around four to six weeks. After this I will contact you to arrange collection from the studio. If you do not live on the Island or will not be able to come back to collect your pots we can arrange to post them to you at an extra charge.
